Healthy Tips For A Trimmer Turkey Day

Let’s face it, most of us look forward to splurging on Thanksgiving, and possibly on the days that follow with all the leftovers. And what do we tend to do but skip breakfast and possibly even lunch thinking we’re saving the calories for the big feast. However, eating a small meal earlier in the day can give you more control over your appetite later and keep your metabolism revved so your body doesn’t go into starvation mode and hold on to all the fat and calories it can for survival.

We all need to learn to lighten up. Make your recipes healthier using less fat, sugar, and calories. Consider using fat-free chicken broth to baste the turkey, skip the gravy, use sugar substitutes in place of sugar and fruit purees instead of oil in baked goods. Try and select reasonable-sized portions of different food groups, and focus on the things that only come around once a year. Why fill up on the things you can have on any given day?
